A very important feature of ICDKC is our Family Counseling service. Members of the community often come to us with family problems, including parents considering divorce and the strain that can put on their children. Our staff brings family members together to resolve their differences according to Islamic principles, and also counsels individuals working through personal difficulties, such as recovering from conflict or hardship in their home country. We relieve their anxiety and pain and bring them closer to the community.
ICDKC is very open to law enforcement. If anything out of the ordinary occurs, we stay in close contact with the police force, and we advocate for our peaceful nature. Hate crimes are forbidden and find no place in Islam — they go against everything we believe in. Our faith teaches us to respect everybody, no matter what their religion may be.
ICDKC is proactive in keeping our youth safe and steering them away from violence. Our staff organizes group dialogues among young people, giving them the chance to understand the consequences of engaging in violent extremism, and we work to discourage involvement with violence here or anywhere else. Our children’s health and well-being are vital to the community, and we encourage participation in sports and social events — it’s not unusual to find young people playing basketball outside our Center. By the grace of Allah, we hope that offering healthy activities helps our youth avoid the temptations of drugs, gangs, and other risks so common in the inner city. ICDKC is a welcoming place for those who want to celebrate their Muslim and ethnic heritage. We host events for the community throughout the year, including Iftar during Ayamul-Bayt three days every month, and Iftar and Suhur throughout the blessed month of Ramadan.
ICDKC provides emergency assistance to new refugee families and local people in need who seek help from our Center. The Northeast area is home to many low-income families, and government aid or low wages don’t always cover the month — ICDKC is often the only charitable help they can rely on. Assistance includes:
ICDKC advises and reconciles family members through difficult times, and provides Islamic matrimonial services to meet the needs of the community — helping members find a compatible spouse and begin a marriage rooted in Islamic principles.
